Together, we work to protect, restore, and care for Lake Keowee—ensuring its beauty, health, and enjoyment for all who live, work, and play here.

Cane Creek Initiative

Our current focus is on the Cane Creek region of Lake Keowee, which has not been monitored or maintained. Over the years, it has filled in with silt, debris, and sand, resulting in a significant reduction in depth. Water levels that were previously 26–40 feet deep are now between 0 and 3 feet, with sediment protruding above water frequently when levels are low. Testing reveals high levels of E. coli that live longer and grow in sediment. Additionally, sediment has negatively impacted wildlife and aquatic life through entrapment. Furthermore, Cane Creek is no longer safe for navigation or recreational use, as many areas are now inaccessible and are devoid of water where previously the main channel was several feet deep.

Every action counts! By participating, you help ensure a sustainable future for Lake Keowee and its surrounding wildlife.
